On the left, Yves St. Laurent's Sunflower jacket for his Van Gogh collection of 1988 was embroidered by the Maison Lesage and took 600 hours to make. It is one of the most famous, landmark pieces in the haute couture world. But I was thinking that Vincent's sunflower paintings jarred the art world because his flowers were dying, while dropping seeds, generating new life. He painted death in pastels. I'm quite sure YSL knew this, but what woman would wear dying flowers?
